"Coyotes / Wolf Teas"

coyote

Coyotes remind me so much of wolves! I think this is because of their appearance. Both have greyish hair and a mysterious look in their eyes. The first time I saw a coyote, I was somewhat concerned. I wasn't sure if it was going to run after me. A busy intersection was between us, and I could feel the coyote's glare. They are intimidating, owing to different stories we hear about them. We think of coyote attacks. On the flip side, we sometimes think of opposites: positive coyote experiences. My interaction with coyotes was one of which.

Taking pictures of animals requires agility. Creatures are often quick, and there is a process to taking out your phone, setting up the camera, etc.. I was so excited to see my first coyote, coupled with the fact that there was space / distance between us. Capturing the coyote on screen was magical because I got to share the photo with friends after.

I keep calling coyotes wolves, or mentioning that they serve wolf teas. It is true! Their likeness fools me, but I think wolves are more in mountains and cooler climates. I think coyotes are more urban-based.

Another coyote interaction saw it glaring at a distance under the shade. It was in the middle of July. Coyotes come and go much as squirrels do.

I saw another one in a park and it was looking at us! A large dog park, this zone is also known for its coyotes.

Perhaps most interestingly, the last coyote I saw was also in Toronto. They are so tantalizing (and rapid) that sometimes I am uncertain if I should stop and record their whereabouts. I'm grateful that they remind me of the countryside, although tales say to keep them at bay. I suppose a little distance does not hurt. In my experience, coyotes are curious about humans. Nevertheless, the little kid inside me says to remain mindful around coyotes, for you never know their next move. The uncertainty of engaging with a coyote (and coming across one) can be managed, in my case, through weighing the pros and the cons of the situation.
